Ramadan Moon Sighting at UM-Dearborn Observatory. Saturday May 4th at 7 PM
“The UM-Dearborn Observatory will assist the local Muslim community in its determination of the beginning of Ramadan 1440 AH, by attempting to sight the Moon as it exits its New Moon phase on the evening of Saturday, May 4th. The results of this observation will be posted on the UM-Dearborn Observatory Webpage during the night of Saturday, May 4th.
The Observatory will be open to visitors from 7:00-10:00 pm Saturday, May 4th. If the weather is good, observatory staff will assist visitors in observing the Moon, using the Observatory’s telescopes, until the Moon sets at approximately 8:30 pm. Beginning at 9:15 pm, we will also view some night-sky objects.
If the skies are cloudy, there will instead be an informal talk, starting at 7:30 pm, presenting various aspects of Lunar science. Following the talk Observatory staff will offer tours of the facility. All are welcome! “
